In principle, you can share a book with several family members. However, a book can only be shared with one family member at a time. If you want to share the book with further family members, repeat the sharing process.

To change your nickname, open the “My family” page. Tap the “Edit” button there. Next to your nickname you will find the option “Change name”.
If you have already created a family, you can add further members via your family's home area. Your family can have a maximum of six members in total.

You will find the option to leave the family in the menu next to your name in your family's home area. Please note that you can only change family once every 12 months. In addition, all books that have been shared with you will be deleted from your library once you leave the family. Likewise, the books you have shared with your family members will no longer be available to them.
In your family's home area, you can remove someone from the family via the menu next to the family member's name.
To share audiobooks, you need to use the tolino app (iOS or Android) or the tolino webreader. Unfortunately, listening to and sharing audiobooks is not yet possible on the tolino eReader.
In the app or the webreader, there are two different ways to share eBooks or audiobooks.
To share an eBook or audiobook, you must be a member of a family, and the publisher must have granted the right to share the audiobook you want to share.
To share an audiobook, press and hold the cover of the audiobook until you see the option “Share” in the menu. Select this menu item and then decide which of your family members you want to share it with.
You will find the other way to share an audiobook in the “My family” area. You can open this page via the “Family Sharing” button on the home page. There you will see all members of your family. Select a family member and then decide which audiobook from your collection you want to share with them.
To create a family, you must be logged in on your device (eReader, iOS app, Android app or webreader). Go to your family's home area and follow the instructions.
When you start the process, you first choose a name by which your family members will recognise you. You then hand your device to the person you want to invite to your family. The invited person selects their bookseller and enters their login details. This step is necessary to link the two accounts. The invited person also chooses a name. The device can then be handed back to you and you can share the first book with your family member.

You can share all books and audiobooks in your library with other family members, provided the publisher or author has granted the rights to do so. There is no limit.
Family Sharing can be used on the eReader, in the tolino app for iOS and Android, and in the tolino webreader. Please make sure that your eReader and your app are running the latest software version.
Note: Installing the Android app with the Family Sharing feature requires Android 7 or later. If you use a device with an older operating system version, books or audiobooks that have been shared with you will still be shown in your library. To start or manage a family and to share books yourself, please use the tolino webreader or an eReader. If you also use the tolino app or the tolino webreader for reading in addition to your eReader, you can share audiobooks in these applications as well.

After what is now 5 years of tolino, we have already released eight different tolino eBook readers and integrated many innovative hardware and software features into our reading devices. You can of course read with all tolino eBook readers, but technically speaking, not every tolino eBook reader is the same and each product has its own life cycle. The different hardware of the various tolino eReaders plays an important role when it comes to updates, as many new features also require new hardware components. For this reason, the new feature cannot be used to its full extent on your tolino. The books that have been shared with you will nevertheless be shown in your library. To start or manage a family and to share books yourself, please use the tolino webreader, our tolino apps or an eReader model with software version 14.0.0.

For a book to be shareable, it must meet specific technical requirements, and the necessary right must have been stored in the metadata in our system by the creator of the file.
